Music and the book

  I spent a good while today getting the music together for tomorrow. The gal who coordinates music at church (essentially an unpaid minister of music) is in the hospital. She's been there a while, and though she hopes to be out on Monday, she had the same hopes last week.

  I'm not sure exactly what the issue is, but I think it started when she got one of those stomach staple operations. This is purely speculation since that happened before we started attending the church. Maybe it's not the case, since there are a number of women in the church who have had the operation. If they saw the kind of pain that Amy was in and knew it came along with the weight loss, they'd probably have had second thoughts. So, like I said, I don't know what the source of Amy's pain is, and from what does get reported, neither do her doctors.
  So, anyway, I've been getting together the praise music for the last three weeks. Cathy's been doing the hymns. I've actually inserted hymns into the praise block the last couple weeks. I took the time to render guitar chords (and bass notes) for these songs so that they would flow better in the block. "This Is My Father's World" turns out to be all major 1, 4, & 5 chords which we did in D. Today I did "Victory In Jesus" which is just a touch more complex. There's one key combo that happens twice that I'm not sure what to call. I tried D#dim/F#, though really it's just a F# in the bass with an A a D# and another A above that. Maybe it's an F#m6(no5), but D(b9)/F# is probably closest. Music theory is not something I've ever really had formal training in. Kind of like computer programming.
  Speaking of... the Oracle book arrived today. I'm looking forward to reading and playing around with that. I ordered it sometime after I wrote the "Yes" entry on Thursday, so I was pretty surprised to have it in hand already. If you happen to go to the zShops on Amazon and see bookstech4less, I'm recommending them as a reliable seller.
  Here's my take on "Victory In Jesus"by E. M. Bartlett:

G                          G/B   C            C/E  C/G   G
I heard an old, old story, how a Savior came from glo - ry,
Em D G * Em G7/B A D
How he gave his life on Cal-va-ry to save a wretch like me:
G C/G G G/B C C/E C/G G
I heard about his groan-ing, of his precious blood's a - ton - ing,
G Em D G * Em G7/B C G/D D G
Then I repent-ed of my sins and won the vic - to-ry.

G G7 C C/E C/G G
O victory in Jesus, my Savior, for - ev - er,
G Em D G A D
He sought me and bought me with his redeeming blood;
G G7 C C/E C/G G
He loved me ere I knew Him, and all my love is due Him,
G C G/D D G
He plunged me to victory beneath the cleans-ing flood.

* is something like a D(b9)/F#
