School Ahead

Lexie and I went to an informational meeting tonight at the day care our kids attend. They'll be starting a kindergarten program in the fall using the A Beka curriculum. If we start Kevin in the fall, then he'll either have to repeat kindergarten in the public school or stick with private school for first grade as well. His late fall birthday that will make him one of the youngest in his class if he takes the second option. We will just have to see how his skills develop to make a good decision.

We went thru this with Brittney. She took kinder at Kindercare but we couldn't do private school first grade. She repeated kinder at public school. She had a concrete foundation in the basics and fairly skipped along effortlessly until high school pre-cal kicked her butt. Oh, because she was so grounded in the basics, NEISD deemed her "gifted and talented" and gave her a lot of unique experiences (ie, Duke Talent Pool). I think it has a lot to do with emotional readiness than age. Chloe was way behind emotionally and is just now catching up.

Ah, the first of many chances to second guess our ability to raise our children (or as Brittney puts it, ruin their lives).
