Why IPA?

I'm trying to understand the draw in the IPA style of beer. I bought some Dogfish Head 90 Minute Imperial IPA and didn't really enjoy it. The first bottle was really difficult to get down. The hops are so prevalent that it tastes like you're eating flowers. I decided that there must be some complement to this taste, so I tried some salty chips with the second bottle and that seemed to help.

Having just read the pages I linked to above, perhaps I'll set the other two bottles back for a while. It is sold here in a four pack. I wonder if that fact has anything to do with it's alcohol content.

I've really enjoyed the other two beers from Dogfish Head that I've tried.

As a points-counting Weight Watcher, I wonder why you would force down a high caloric drink that you didn't like in the first place.
