Get the book. Don't settle for just a daily dose.
My missionary buddy from Romania loves it. If that's not a strong, purchase-enducing endorsement, I can't think of what would be.
Nope. Nothing is going on at all.
I did almost finish Gene Wolfe's Latro In the Mist (it's the combo of Soldier in the Mist and Soldier of Arete). Am I the only one who thinks that Wolfe's novels all end the same? Everyone always seems to be ascending into the heavens or off into some other dimension. I really enjoy the ride but always get disappointed at the end, as if he's building up to some great moment and then just ends it.
While reading John Dvorak's latest article in this week's PC Magazine, I wanted to click one his bolded text items for more information. I read on the computer way too much. I need a life. The really sad thing is that my second reaction (after "Oh, yeah, this is print") was to want to go online and grab the article with links.
This is why everyone thought that stupid CAT barcode reader from Radio Shack was going to be real big.
Yep. BL beckons. The short term project is getting longer. Maybe it will last until October.
BWAH-HAHAHAHA!
I'd subscribe to the NYT if there were some way to get it without any of the irritating NY-specific aspects of it.
L and I have been married ten years today.
More later. I'm busy. Doing married things.
Ten years! We're off to a Bed and Breakfast in LaPorte, IN that I ran across one day while 'wandering Indiana', as per the old state adverts. I have no idea if it's nice, but L says we got the last room for the night: there's a big corporate event going on there this week but they didn't take all the rooms.
We're going out to the Cafe L'amour (yep, that's the name) for dinner. It's one of my faves, possibly because the wait staff and ownership are all so very odd. The food's great, though.
Then we're going to go to the Antique Mall tomorrow, once we roll out of bed. Lots of celebrating going on. Woohoo!

Been reading Camp's Start With No. Great book: lots that anyone in business or life can use regularly. Key points:
Highly recommended but don't expect a way out of the work.
I'm sitting here in the wonderful Burr House Inn (again), watching the wonderful History channel which is showing a docu on the Eiffel Tower. I got the opportunity when I was working with some folks from Using It (now Namahn) in Brussels to run over to Paris and see the Eiffel Tower.
My first reaction was "Wow! It's so big!" I didn't expect it to be so awe inspiring. I work in Chicago's loop quite often, and I've worked across the street from the Sears Tower and at the Standard Oil Building. I've eaten at the Signature Room of the John Hancock Building. But there was something about that beautiful, open air construction that captures the imagination, takes you into its marvelous form. L spent as much time as I could steal at it.
It figures that the Eiffel Tower was able to survive because it was used as a radio tower. BL has an interesting cell/radio tower that they affectionately call "The Eiffel Tower of BL". It's neat and all, but it doesn't hold a candle to the original.
I have successfully avoided having any meal with my co-workers this week, other than the Monday dinner with S over at that Mexican restaurant. For whatever reason, they drive me nuts to be around sometimes.
Yet another reason why I should move out of IT and into something interesting.
I went to Linkage's Organizational Development Summit in June (right after I got fired). I went just to hear Peter Block. I'd first come across his name while reviewing the Software Engineering Institute's documents on Risk Taxonomy for IT projects. In a footnote to Software Risk Evaluation (SRE) Method Description (Version 2), the SEI Risk Management team refers to his first book:
The hits just keep on coming. I'm back in BL for more work with my old employer's client. I have more work now that I've quit than I did while I was working. Most of the time, I would just sit on my butt and not do anything.
I'll post some of the agony as I hit it.
I really like the Burr House Inn. Great innkeepers and it just feels good. I have the Suite this week, since some dude from Nebraska is squatting in my usual room. So I don't have the jacuzzi tub, but I do get a really large room.
It's Kiefer's birthday! Everyone sing!
Happy Birthday to Kiefer
Happy Birthday to Kiefer
Kiefer is the greatest
And he used to buy me Icees at Pak-N-Sak
And he gave me his GI Joes from the sixties
Happy Birthday to him!
